1929 SSK Gazelle-Christmas Gift of a Lifetime
This is a 1929 Mercedes-Benz “SSK Gazelle”, replica of the 1929 Mercedes SSK. My SSK Gazelle is sitting on a 1974 Ford Pinto chassis and powered by the Pinto’s 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission. I have the original assemble manual for the kit and the Ford Pinto owner’s workshop manual. It comes with a brand new set of tires on the ground and a spare tire with wire wheels, a tan convertible top and side curtains all in great shape! This has been our Sunny Day touring car and fun parade vehicle. The odometer mileage is 8,832
The History of the SSK
• There were only forty (40) of the originals ever built.
• Today's replica models are called the Gazelles and while there's some disagreement as to what company built the first Gazelle replica, Tiffany Motor Cars does appear to be the first company to advertise them. SSK was an abbreviation for Super Sport Kurz.
• It's believed that only five (5) of these original Mercedes SSK models still survive. As you can imagine they rank at the top for car collectors. They are some of the most revered sports cars in the entire world and are as close to priceless as you can get.
• The Mercedes SSK was designed by Ferdinand Porsha with a six cylinder supercharged engine putting out 300 horsepower. This made the Mercedes SSK one of the fastest cars in the world at that time. The SSK models were essentially a shorter and lighter version of the Mercedes S model. Along with being one of the world's fastest sports cars it also was one of the world's most beautiful. The car was a masterful piece of work by Porsha before he eventually went on to begin his own auto company.
