Guys, am building a custom kit of my own design using an MGA chassis and an MGB front suspension and steering rack. Problem is the rack (and front track) of the MGB is 38mm wider than the MGA track and rack. Both cars will use the full suspension of the MGB with no need for modification. In other words you can fit the MGB lower and upper suspension arms, hubs, steering arms brakes and hubs onto an MGA whilst retaining the MGA rack. But if I fit the rack from the MGB this would affect the steering geometry wouldn't it? Its been suggested that I move the rack forward and down to maintain the correct geometry. Any comments on this idea? Or alternatively is anyone familiar with a home made wheel alignment set up I can use to test these ideas?

Hi Dunbar_58

What is to stop you just using the MGA rack? Furthermore, a measly 38mm is only 19mm per side which you may get away with just winding in the trackrod ends as far as they will go, might have to chop a bit off the end of the steering arms and run a die up the arms to lengthen the thread. The actual type of rack itself won't affect the geometry, apart from toe out if it's too long!

Here's one I built earlier.
