Well, i just finished the eggcrate with foam, and now i dont know wether to build a mold or just build the body? Keeping price in mind its cheaper without molds, but if a panel brakes in an accident then what...so opinions please!

Your better off spending the extra money and making the molds, because just as you said, if you break a panel, your up the perverbial creek without a paddle. BTW what sort of car are you building???

Hope this helps

It's a home made design its a mix of a lamborghini diablo, a GT40, and a Mclaren F1. See, I know how to make the body but I don't know how to make the molds. Help.

That sounds like a interesting design, any pics??

Anyway, you are best off going to a fibreglass place and getting them to make the mold for you, because If you have never done it before, probably not a good idea to start now. Living in Australia, I can't really recommend any useful places to you, so your best off just looking through the phone book, and ringing around!!!

Hope this helps

If you don't know how to make the molds, there are a few sources you can check out depending on what area of the country you live in. BTW, since the quality of your panels will depend on the quality of your molds, you may what to hire a pro for that.

If you still want to build your own molds, I would contact Corey Rudl. You can get his contact from Curt Scott (kitcar.com) Corey has (or had) a publication on how to splash a kit. (splash is a term meaning to create your own molds based on a set of donor panels so you can make more donor panels)

If you want to hire a pro to build the molds for you, here is where I would start...

Call any local Trucking or Trucking supply companies. They may be able to give you the name of the manufacturer in your area who makes those fiberglass wind deflectors you see on the tops of the semi cabs. The makers of those wind deflectors design there own molds to make hoods for all kinds of different semis.

Call any local boat repair of customizing shops. Most boats are fiberglass, so they will usuall have knowledge of fiberglass repair and customization.

Call any local corvette specialy shops. Most corvette bodys are fiberglass and they usually have knowledged on fiberglass car body panels and how to make and repair them.

Hope this helps.
