The Shay Model A was a really neat car. I believe that kits based on this production version may still be available through Speedway Motors.

If this car is a 1980 Super Deluxe, then it's one of the later ones that had many of the 'bugs' worked out of it (they started building back in '78ish). The price for a Deluxe back in 1980 was ~$10K. So this car has REALLY held it's value.

The car was powered by a 2.3 liter Pinto/Mustang II motor, and I'm pretty sure that the majority of these fine little cars were 4-speeds (I've never seen an automatic, and I believe that I heard something like only 1/3 to 1/4 of the cars were autos anyway).

I've always liked the car. Keep in mind that the original cars were made by 'teams' of builders in a small shop, not by just some guy in a garage; these are cars, not kit cars. They came fully finished.

As far as why the guy doesn't call you back...maybe he sold it?

Your pal,
Meat.
