Hello I'm new to kit cars and such. I like the idea of building my own car. All the kit cars Ive seen are replicas of Lamborghinis, Cobras, *******s and other cars. Now I wonder if there arn't any kits that is'nt a replica of something else? Having a replica is'nt nearly as apealing as having a car with an original design.

Im looking for a supersports car design like the lamborghini. Ive seen the K1 Attack model and its cool but I don't like that it only comes as a convertible model. Here in sweden where I live there arnt that many days a year when you can drive without a roof over your head.

Also I have some design ideas of my own. How hard is it make your own fiber glas body? I have basic understanding of how it works but could use some in depth information about making a fibreglas carbody. Any good books.

Euro Works has a car called the Evoluzione. It replicas nothing and has its own exotic design. You may want to look at it. There website is www.euroworksltd.com

P.S. the Evo II is a little better designed car. It also looks better.

The Evo II looks good. It looks ******* inspired. But I think its kind of abit to simple design. Most people wont notice the car that much. I'm looking for a more extreme design. It surprices me that there arn't more original kit car designs out there.

On fearture I would love to have on my kit car is a pair of Delorian style doors. You know those birdwing doors.

"Gullwing." The door style is gullwing.

There are quite a few original designs. Not as many in North America as in Europe, though. You might want to check out Which Kit and the European Kit Car magazine for a much wider selection of original car designs.

Hlcole, I read the other post you wrote where you wanted to start a kit car business. I hope every thing works out for you. One thing I would like to se is more original designs like the Attack for example. If you are going to make your own fibreglass bodies why not put some of your own design ideas into them. Why make a "replica" when you can make the "real thing".

Thanks V12 Lover. I am working on the design now. I have decided that the kit will be built around a custom tubular chassis (thanks to everyone for their input on this). The plan, so far, is to allow for several different engine configurations, but the suggested will be the small block Chevy. The donor (for brakes, suspension, steering, engine etc.) will be a Corvette (84-93).

I still need to address the rear suspension though. I am not sure about using the multi-link rear suspension from the donor. Any thought from the board on this?

Hi V12Lover,

Can you tell me how many "points" that 3D model has?

It only has 2538 points and 2478 subpatched polygons. Im trying to keep the point / polygon count down but with added detail this number will keep growing.

Making models in Lightwave is very easy and allows you to really play with the design. Lightwave is a 3D animation software and is not really intended for CAD tasks. It doesn't give you any blueprints nor is it as accurate measurewise as a CAD application. However you can probably export any model made in Lightwave to AutoCAD for example and refine it to usable blueprints.

Are you working in a computer program when you'r working on your designs?

Sure. Right now (until february 15) Im a little bussy though. To be able to give you the most accurate model I need a top, a left or a right, a front and a back picture. Do you have Lightwave your self?
