You won't be able to use either of these welders for the cutting. For that you will need either oxy/acetylene or plasma but best off just using an angle grinder with a cutting disk on it. For welding purposes mig is far easier to learn than stick (arc) welding and is also more suited to car autobody. Arc is generally better on the thicker stuff. Just make sure you practice on a load of offcuts before tackling anything structural!

I've also found that the no-gas migs do not produce as good a weld as the gas ones. This is an inert gas such as co2 or argon or a mix which shields the arc from the oxygen in the atmosphere.

Hope this made some sense (use mig)!

SORRY GUY,
STRETCHING A FIERO CHASSIS ISN'T THE PLACE TO BE LEARNING TO WELD,A LOT OF STRESSES ARE INVOLVED YOURE CUTTING AND WELDING HSS STEEL, AND
EXTENDING WITH COMMON COLD ROLLED STEEL,EVERYTHING HAS TO BE RIGHT, WELD PENETRATION ETC, IT WOULD BE YOUR LIFE AT STAKE IN THE CAR ,TAKE WHAT IT WOULD COST TO GET A CHEAP MIG WELDER,AND PAY A BODY OR WELDING SHOP TO DO IT RIGHT!!THAT CAN GET YOU KILLED EVERYTHING ELSE IN A KIT CAR IS JUST COSMETIC,IF I DOSEN'T LOOK GOOD DO IT OVER,YOU SCREW UP A FRAME STRETCH YOU WON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU WAKE UP IN THE HOSPITAL, OR GET TO SAY HI!!TO SAINT PETER AT THE PEARLY GATES,THEY'D LET YOU IN FOR BEING PENNY WISE AND DOLLAR FOOLISH
