Does anyone know how to frame a windshield. Is fiberglass strong enough to support it or is there a better way |

I assume you mean for a roadster or convertible...it depends on the design...but, usually, fiberglass alone is not strong enough to support the glass without flexing, and ultimately, breaking. It is a very good idea to reinforce behind the fiberglass with steel tubing...usually, there's a small pocket around the windsheild that you can tuck this into...use the largest diameter tubing you can, brace it as well as possible under the windsheild and behind the dash, and bond the steel to the fiberglass around the windsheild with "corvette bond", or another type of reinforced filler...of course, you will need a way to weld this metal...hopefully, you have a welder...I'd find it impossible to build a kit without one.Good luck! Would reinforcment not be necessary on a coupe? I've seen things about reinforcement on lambo kits and was not for sure?

Once again, it depends on the design...If the winsheild is small, and the fiberglass thick, it may be strong enough. The '34 Ford coupe kit from Street Beast is strong enough...other cars are not. I guess the litmus test would be the grab it and see if it flexes test. Grab the area, and try to bend/flex it...if you can, it needs reinforcing...if you can put all your weight into it, and not see any flexing, you should be safe. What type of kit are you working with? I may have some experience with it.Stephen
