I have a 60's era VW-based Aztec (one of the first made). It is in great condition, gull-winged, but is rather low on performance with an old VW 6-volt engine. Does anyone know if a Mazda RX-7 engine can be adapted to the bell housing? Would rotation be correct or would I need a Formula V conversion kit to correct rotation? (Mounting the cooling system is a different problem that I think I could solve, similar to an old X-19 I had.)

If it's still 6 volt, the swap will be a little more complex, since you'll have to physically grind the bellhousing to clear the larger flywheel, but yes, putting the rotary motor in is done quite a bit for kits. Like you mentioned, cooling will always be an issue, so plan the radiator placement accordingly. Your exhaust will also be hotter than a non-rotary car, so take that into consideration as well. Adapters and clutches are available through Kennedy Engineering.
