Hi! New here. My name's Bart, and I'm from Illinois.

I've been in the market for a "play car", namely some kind of convertible. I got thinking about someone I once new that had a '29 Gazelle replica, and thought it might be cool to get one myself...as long as the car suits my intended purpose. So, I have a few questions.

Some of these questions are probably more 'car specific', but I am asking these in a general sense.

This car will not be a daily driver (hence it being a "play car"). My primary concern is with the top. Is it possible to drive (say 50 mph) with the top up? I'm concerned that wind will come in and rip the top off while driving. There will be some situations where I will be driving in cooler areas (and maybe get caught in a light rain) and having the top up would be necessary, but still needing to be driven. Or, are these cars designed to only be driven with the top down?

Are these cars comfortable enough to take a 2 or 3 day road trip, or are they more designed around just driving for a few hours at a time? I would like to be able to take a small road trip that may take me across a couple states, with a couple stops at hotels.

Originally, I was looking at more modern cars (Mazda Miata, BMW Z4, etc) for my purposes, but thought a Gazelle would be a lot more fun and 'nostalgic'. Hopefully, a Gazelle would suit my needs as far as intended use (small road trips, driving with the top up at times, etc). If it won't work for my driving situation, then I may have to resort back to a more modern car.

Please let me know your opinion, and if I come up with more questions, I'll add them to this thread.

Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the forum.

The CMC Gazelle was a decent car as was the fiberfab migi. The front seats are pretty roomy. I have driven and ridden in a gazelle, but never for 2 or 3 days at a time. But I cant imagine it would be a bad ride.

As far as the top goes I have never heard of the top flying off of one of them at 50+ mph

There are plenty of them gazelles out there at reasonable prices.

I even believe I have a full assembly manual for the gazelle(chevette)

Let us know if you have any questions.
