Hi there, I was looking to get some outside input on a project I am beginning in the next few weeks, thought I'd drop a line here to see what people think. I have spent quite some time looking for decent replicas of the Jaguar xj220 and the ******* Enzo, and as I'm sure a lot of other people have discovered, they are practically non-existent. So, I'm biting the bullet and plan to cast out my own body. I've mocked and finished custom bodies before, that's not so much an issue, but I'm also hoping to come away with a reasonable set of plugs so that I might be able to recoup some money selling that off. Here's the dilemma: I prefer the XJ220s design to the *******, but the Jaguar is a boat of a car at around 16 feet long. I'm not willing to adjust original measurements for the sake of convenience, but I also want a car that other people would be excited to own. I'm trying to get the last of the second-guessing out now, as once the frame is mocked I'm locked into it. Which seems the best to you guys? |

Either would be a great accomplishment if you can do it and do a good job, but I have one even better in mind . . Did you ever see the movie Minority Report with Tom Cruize? They built a car for that movie that was supposed to be a 2054 Lexus. It's just flat out the best looking exotic ever conceived. I had a chance to buy one of the movie props for $35k, and regret not buying it now. Like you, I have been considering trying to build one of these bodies, but I have never done it before. You say you have experience. Would you be interested in working with me on this project? I'll try to post a picture here. If it doesnt' work, you can see the car here: http://archive.cardesignnews.com/news/2002/020724minority-report/ You can reach me at timw@erols.com

Hey ElvistheMonkey,I will cast my vote for the XJ220, did you know that a pretty decent looking body has been made before from some guy in Australia, however he sold the body on the Kitcars.com. www.kitcars.com/Classifieds/AdDetails.asp?classified_id=6433" target="_blank">http://www.kitcars.com/Classifieds/AdDetails.asp?classified_id=6433 Iām not sure if the jaguar will recoup most of your money, since more people have heard of the Enzo, especially since that comedian Eddie Griffin crashed one. But, the Jaguar is SWEET looking, so you can sell on that point. Hey, if you live in or close to Maryland I would be willing to help you on either project. I recently finished a welding course, and would like to have a stab at making a chassis. Plus it would be a lot of fun wiring cutting a foam body. Cheers, Jason XJ220

From a lawyers point of view (I'm not), you'd probably be better off with the Jag. How many Fe**i replicas do you see being produced versus Lambos? None at all - for a reason. That particular car company stringently enforces it's copyrights on design, so better to be safe(r) than sorry later.R
