What are you going to do with the car? Is it going to be a daily driver? Are you going to race it? Is it just for looks?And - more importantly - how much mechanical experience do you have?
There are a number of ways to get into a replica inexpensively. First off, you could to a rebody, which means you're looking at using a base car and replacing body panels. The cars that you should look at are the Miata (Cobra, *******-like rebodies), Fiero (mostly ******* replicas, GT40 MkI and Mk2, and a few original designs), and MR2 second iteration (******* replica). The Miata and the MR2 are great handling, fairly inexpensive to maintain cars. The Fiero has a really expensive tranny to replace.
Or, if you have mechanical aptitude that's a bit better than changing plugs, tires and tuneups, you could build a number of Cobra replicas - the least expensive of which are the B&B, Lonestar and FFR.
Or, if you can weld or are good at scrounging, you could build a Locost Lotus 7 replica.
Those are all reasonable, fairly easy to assemble kits to start with.
