 change standard shift to automatic vw beetle

i have a 1966 vw beetle on a 1952 mg kit car that is a standard shift, i want to change the standard shift to an automatic.i want to take my mg body off of the 66 vw and put it on an automatic chasis
or car. i had my car for twenty years and i want to keep it but i don't like driving a standard shift anymore , anyone out there that

Did the Old VW even have auto? I remember they had Semi Auto, And I think Auto stick or something like that

It is possible to swap a semi-automatic from a 70-73 model or even a full automatic from a Type 3 into your pan, but concessions have to be made to fit all the components. Semi-autos and full auto trannys are much larger than the 4-speeds, and some floor pan adaptations have to be made. I'd find a VW club close to you (check http://www.oldride.com/clubs.html?State=NJ) to see if they can recommend anyone to do the swap. I would have the transaxle completely rebuilt, though, if you do find one, just to make sure all the required parts are there.
