Seeing as they are not kitcars and a just working a loophole. And its not modified. They are taken apart and put back together then titled as a kitcar. Not "legal" by any means.also the whois info shows them as a UK based company but yet they will sell you a State legal car. Sound fishy? Skylined 11 vernon drive spondon derby, derbyshire DE21 7PG UK Registrar of Record: TUCOWS, INC. Record last updated on 30-Aug-2005. Record expires on 30-Aug-2007. actually i talked to the man that runs skyline imports. they are modified to pass emissions in all 49 states (excluding california)From : Skyline Imports <skyline-imports@hotmail.com> Reply-To : sales@skyline-imports.com Sent : Sunday, February 19, 2006 9:24 PM To : kingpin591032@hotmail.com CC : skykit@nextel.blackberry.net Subject : RE: Skyline "kit-cars" | | | Inbox Jordan, The kits are very simple to build we supply everything required. You will be supplied a rolling chassis, engine and transmission, front and rear bumpers, hood and trunk and front and rear seats. you will just need to assemble these parts. All wiring harnesses are already in the vehicle and marked for easy assembly. Yes they are right hand drive Insurance is very dependant on person to person, but they are not expensive to insure, i suggest make a couple of phone calls for quotes. It takes approx 3-5 days dependant on your level of ability.. I can do one in 3 days on my own and an engine lift. You will be liable for import tax of 10% on your kit as its classed as parts until assembled I hope this answers your questions but if you have any more please dont hesitate to ask Kindest regards Robert AND Jordan,
No further legalisation cost are payable and your car will be street legal at that piont once assembled and inspected. In regards to tax everyone has to pay the customs tax charges of 10% Kind regards Robert

If they are shipping you a skyline in peices, then it is not legal. They are using a loophole to get around DOT/NHSTA required modifications. Also im sure it is not emmisions legal. Then again where I am in Florida there are no emmisions laws. Also if you put that together and tried to reg it in florida I am willing to bet it would not fly seeing as though homebuild vehicles require inspection befor a VIN will be issued. www.kitcar.ws |

Isn't this exactly what NOBLE does? What is it the inspector would fault you for. I know it has to be inspected. Are you saying as far as glass? It is my experience that the inspectors aren't as thorough as you seem to believe. Please explain.

The Skyline needs to meet several safety req. and Modifications to meet US spec. Everything from small labels to modifying the way the seats are mounted. Most of the skyline mods are under tight wraps do to a confidentiality agreement . But you can see what was tested and what needs to be fixed here http://dmses.dot.gov/docimages/pdf42/69794_web.pdf Now the Noble is purchased as a rolling chassis or completed car. This is completely different then taking a production car apart shipping it in several pieces, putting it back together as a "kitcar" www.kitcar.ws |

I don't know, but it looks like you need to do some more homework. One, you already called it a loophole. If it is a loophole, then it is legal. A Nissan sklyine isn't legal, but one of these cars bought from this company is legal. Also, you can argue all day long about whether anything we do as import or kitcar enthusiasts do is legal. I know a TON of cobra replicas that aren't "legal", but they are registered and driven on US streets, to me that is legal. I know a lot of guys with imported cars that are the same way. Yes, to make THE NISSAN SKYLINE "legal", you would have to crash test 10 of them, and make sufficient mods to all following imported vehicles, yadda, yadda, yadda, BUT I know quite a few guys who imported "their cars" (Nissan skylines), took them to the DMV, had them inspected and drove away with VINs and registration. It's just whether you want to mass import a car, or drive your own personal car on public streets. That's the difference. It doesn't make it illegal. You can point fingers and say its not legal all day long, but they can still insure the car, drive the car, enjoy the car, soooo......what's not legal? And YES, that is exactly what NOBLE does. You realize the USA is the only country they sell the car in pieces right? All noble models are...omg...production cars, and no, you cannot buy a completed car in the USA. That IS illegal. THEY cannot legally sell you a completed car due to them not being compliant with the USA's restrictions. Once completed, by the owner or third party shop, they can be registered, but NOBLE cannot legally offer this service. They are copying NOBLE exactly kitcarguy! You realize NOBLE sells their cars as a chassis/body in one crate and the engine/drivetrain in the other crate to be completed by the third party or owner EXACTLY like this company does! These skylines are JUST as legal. They are circumventing the legal bull**** EXACTLY the same way. NOBLE is praised, but ignorant fools who are perhaps jealous...I don't really know or understand...hate people who find ways to drive these imported cars. I would love for somebody to explain THAT to me. Somebody start THAT thread. Whatever, Im done. Real answer, the cars are legal OR what you do is illegal. Take it up with yourself if you have trouble accepting it. Its a personal problem after that. Enjoy your skylines, guys who can.

I believe its you who needs to check your info. IM not sure how long you have been in the kitcar scene but I have been active since about 1991 and have owned more cars then I can count. You do not need to crash test 10 skylines. This statement alone tells me you have no clue. Do you know how many J/K motoring tested? 2 not 10 but 2. You purchase a Noble from 1gracing complete (minus engine/trans) It is a component car ( not production car) big difference. A loophole is not a "legal" means of doing something. It is a way to get around the "legal" way. As far as all of your buddies cobras go, what makes them not legal? I could build a cobra replica and have no problem getting it reg in this state as long as I have all reciepts and other info. Home built cars are not illegal to own. Also im not putting down the skyline in anyway. I personally do not like the car but I do like the drivetrain.Enough so where I am concidering it for my next project. Just dont say its state legal unless it can be backed up with a truely state legal car. www.kitcar.ws |
