Hi everybody, I'm brand new to the kit car scene, so this question might sound a little stupid. But I have been trying to find an online seller of brand new kits, not assembled at all, but have failed so far. Where can I find/buy replicar kits that need complete assembly? |

I was looking for a roadster type car, something that would be a good first time project. Right now I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of project it would be and how much time I would have to devote to it to get it done. I live in Oregon, and am looking for something on the less expensive end of the price spectrum. Forgive me if I sound like a complete moron.

One of the easiest and least expensive kits is the Cobra. I built one from Factory 5 and found it to be a good learning experience rather than bad. I was able to complete it in a little over a year and am now building a much harder Gullwing. I am glad that I have the Cobra under my belt to drive and enjoy while I tackle the other. They are many good and bad kits out there that will make the experience a pleasure or a nightmare. http://www.factoryfive.com/index.html

No your not a moron . There is really no such thing as a "good" first time project...lol You say roadster but that means many things to me. Lambo roadster? Or a old school roadster? It would be best to let us know what kind of car it is you are looking for. No dont take this as me being rude, its not meant to be. Just have seen alot of failed attemts at kitcar building. A few things to ask yourself. 1. Do you have the room to complete the build? 2. Do you have the tools? No matter what anyone says you will not build a kitcar in 50 hours with ordinary hand tools...lol 3. Do you have the funds to go from start to finish? 4. Do you have the knowledge? Most are not as easy as just bolting then up and painting, there is alot of work involved. Let us know the type of roadster you are looking for and we will point you in the right direction my friend. www.kitcar.ws |

I was thinking along the lines of a smaller, european style roadster such as an MG or something similar. A family friend built one a few years ago, and he had a good time with it. I will definatly take a look at that cobra, though. I am pretty much willing to build anything small and fun to drive. Thanks a lot for the help, guys. I really appreciate it.

Since you're just getting into the hobby, I might suggest a kit that's been maybe partially assembled, or one that just 'needs work'. There are usually a ton of Mercedes replicas (Gazelle) on Ebay, since you're looking for a European roadster. I've seen quite a few that have not been put together, and the owner is looking to clear his garage.Rick

Also check out www.speedsterowners.com. The little 356 Speedsters are a blast. I think Streetbeasts still sell a kit. Or there are lots of unfinished kits available.

Well, I think I've found a kit that might work from Robin Hood Sports Cars. Now all I have to do is find out how to get it to the States... Thanks for all the help and advice.
