Doing lots of research, I've decided against building a Cobra, or any old-ish replica. I'd love to do an Ultima or something similar, but egads, that's a big investment for a first time kit. I thought the Attack might have been feasible, but isn't offered any more. However, I do like the concept! Can anyone point me in the direction of similar kits? I'm not terribly interested in using a Fiero as a base. Alright, now that I'm done being picky, let's see what you can suggest! Thanks, Chris |

Big question. How much money to you have to invest? Sounds like a personal question but if you looking to build a exotic on a yugo budget it just wont happen and a kitcar might not be for you right now. This is why you see so many unfinished projects. If you are looking at anything close to the ultima you will pay for it . Now if you have about 35k to spend factory five has the GTM
If im not mistaking the kit is going to run about 20k and you need a late model vette 97 to 04 for the drivetrain and such.

Well its not sold as a turnkey the "kit" will run $19,990. And then you will need a corvette donor to complete the build. www.factoryfive.com . They are well known for their cobra replicas. The direct link to the GTM can be found here http://factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/GTM/GTMkit.html

Well, my original plan was to start by doing a 2nd second generation RX7 LS1 conversion. As I looked further into it, I realized if I spend a ton of time and a decent bit of money, and wind up with an ugly car, I'll be disapointed. I then thought about the e36 BMW 3 series LS1 conversion, but it is quite undeveloped at this point and the wiring on a project like that scares the bejezus out of me. Back to the RX7, but the ***y 3rd generation. Wait, the donor car is going to cost 8 grand IF I can find one. Sooooo, if I'm contemplating that much money for a donor, I figure, let's see what kit options there are, where I can build exactly what I want, and way more lightweight than even a "lightweight" RX7. I'd like to stick with the LS1 series engine because it's an awesome package. Very powerful and very lightweight. Honda engines aren't bad either, they tweak nicely, but the car will have to be quite light to keep a good power to weight ratio. Basically I'm still in the 'bench building' stage. Although, for practice, I'm turning my old 400cc Honda into a Cafe racer. Good fiberglass/planning practice.
