Hello there, I am new to the replica/kit car world. I just recently purchased a Porsche GT kit and it requires a custom tube chassis or stretched Fierro chassis. I was wondering if anyone does these chassis on a regular basis and would be interested in selling me one as I am more of an engine/electronics guy and do not want to screw up the main frame of this car concluding in a totalled car in the middle of the road. Understandable I think. If you are interested email me at zgc7009@uncw.edu . Thanks. ALSO I can not afford the $20,000 Porsche engine that belongs in this car. I was thinking about dropping the Supra 2JZGTTE Twin Turbo Engine in it and pushing it to 600rwhp or using the M3 S50 engine and pushing it with a custom turbo kit to about the same. This would give it a comparable amount of power, along with the custom suspension it should drive almost comparably to the real thing. But of course the issue that arrises is that these are both front mount engines, not mid mount engines. I was wondering what the best way to do the transmission would be, obviously custom, but what the best way is. I was originally thinking about dropping the NSX engine in it but there isn't enough power, similar problem with the MR2 engines, and the higher level mid engine's (Ford GT, Noble M12, Porsche GT) cost more than an arm and a leg. I am going to custom fiberglass the interior with some subwoofers behind the seat and some tv's as this will be a show vehicle. Sparco seats will be my seat and MOMO components will be inside. Let me know what you think as this is my first project and let me know if you have any better ideas. Thank you. |

Ummm well engine guy..lol The Supra or M3 motor at 600 or so HP. What do you think that will cost to build up? I personally know a buddy who has about 15k in his supra in engine Mods and its at about the HP you speak of. Also maybe you should have thought out the project a little more before you purchased the Kit. When you decide its to much work and want to get rid of it make sure you post your unfinished kit here. Im sure someone will purchase it. Its always a good ideal to think it thru. How much to you have to spend on this total project? Better yet how much do you think it will cost? Sorry if I sound as though im bashing your post but im really not. I have just seen this play out time and time again. Even I did it. But it was with a old VW based kit. Not something that will need alot of custon parts to get it on the road. Goog luck with the build

Ah 2JZGTE's, one of the great engines of the world!!! Ok first of all you can use a Porsche gearbox and transaxle(G50 I think) and this will allow you to midmount the engine. Secondly, the fun part!! The 2JZ can make 600hp standing on it's head (if an engine could stand on it's head) what you need is the following.2 x HKS 2540 turbos (plus piping, but from memory they should just bolt up to the standard manifold) A large intercooler (or 2 smaller ones to put in the side vents) larger injectors (about 1000cc/min) better fuel pump port and polish the head A stand alone ECU (eg APEXi FC) Dyno tune Now you have 600hp at the flywheel on about $8000 worth of mods. My advice now would be don't use a fiero chassis, use a space frame chassis and a good suspension system, and use the brakes off the Supra you gutted to get the motor or a good set of Brembo's!!! Do this or you'll only drive this car once and you'll come home in a bodybag!!! Morbid I know but this does happen all the time!! Hope this helps your mate in OZ Dave

kitcarguy- The reason I can afford to build the engine in comparison to buying the Porsche engine is because I have a business license in NC. I have a dealership agreement with companies such as JE, HKS, and Eagle just to name a few. This gives me half off prices, I have completely thought out the price. The chassis is the only thing I am unsure of that is why I am posting on here. I also have a buddy that owns a body shop, another with a tire shop, and another with an audio/video customization shop. Then there is a guy that just opened a performance shop just down the street that said he is allowing me to park it there, and work on it with him as long as I include a sticker of his on the front windshield when done. So thank you for your response and I will be sure to post my vehicle when it is complete.dave114- I agree with you, and I am actually planning on single slugging with the turbo. I am not sure what turbo I am going to use yet but I have my eye on a few pumpin out 1000hp plus. I just need a chassis :(

Well them maybe you could look for a race car builder in your area? From the email address you have I guess you are a student or maybe a teacher or something at UNC Wilmington . A few chassis builders in NC are as follows. ....http://www.bsrproducts.com/homepage.cfm http://www.crawfordcomposites.com/ http://www.hutch-pagan.com/ http://www.tootees.com/
Thats just a few I found in a minute on google. This is a option but will probally not be cheap by any means.

Well 1000hp is a whole new kettle of fish. The stock motor will not support that much horsepower, so you'll have to rebuild it with high performance forged pistons and some serious cams. The turbo you will want is either the Trust T88-34D (their is a newer one but I can't rememder the code) or a HKS T51SPL. Both able to flow 1000hp worth of boost. But the trade off is drivabilty. In short it will suck, the triple plate clutch will be extremely heavy and all the power is in the top end of the rev range. My recommendation would be go for about 700hp which is right in the 2JZ-GTE 's comfort zone (after a rebuild of course) with the big single huffer and you'll never look back!!Hope this helps your mate in OZ Dave
