I am currently starting a project to build a new car from scratch. I would eventually like to end up with a mid engined two seat sports car. I am currently designing the chasis using finite element analysis and was wondering what type of engine would be good for a car of this type? how would I acquire one of these engines? And what type of fitment would I need?
If any one could help, it would be most appreciated

Well I would like to end up with something similar to a lotus elise or ariel atom. But its very open. This is actually a university funded project, so I can pretty much design anything I wanted. I know the elise uses a 4 cylinder toyota engine and the atom uses the honda engine, but how would I go about getting one of these? I would also like to enquire about the dimensions and weight of it? At the moment I am in the process of designing the chassis of the car using ANSYS but its tough without the initial parameters.

Thanks
