Need help. I was looking at the The "Diabolic 6" at Exotic Rebodies. I have never built an exotic car before. Is there anything I should know? Any tips? Any good manufactures? Anything would be great. thanks Don@lockdownaudio.com

Don, Before you decide on a kit to build, review your skill level, think about items you won't be doing on your project, (paint, welding, etc.) Put together a rough balance or budjet sheet ( that will save you$$ before you start)! Check all avaiability of service and parts you will be using and options. Don't forget to add a contingency amout for unseen services. My wife and I just built a ffr kit and consider it a level one (easy). We completed the kit with no options, drove it and then decided on the options to fit our needs. I found this to be effective because: the buy in was entry level, and it wasn't a chunk of money right out the gate. This way we didn't end up with options and costs that are unnecessary. Ater going to a few kit car shows now< I can say that I can evaluate the levels of skill for a majority of the cars. My daughter wants to do a lambo kit but I consider that a level 7-8, not for her. Hope this helps out. Richard

I agree with Richard. A lambo is a very difficult and time consuming project. Perhaps for your first project you might want to try something a little easier. I built a FFr and learned a lot doing it. then i went on to a K-1 evoluzione. This was quite a bit harder than the FFR car. I would say it was a 5-6 on a scale to 10. I had a Countach kit that i bought real cheap. i didnt want to even consider building it. Its not that i couldnt but i just didnt have the funds or the time to take on such a project. If i am going to devote that kind of energy iw will do a 512 Testarossa. Research is very critical when doing such a big project. they also never cost what you think to build. I have over $20,000.00 into my Evoluzione. It just keeps adding up.www.mikescustomcobraparts |

Don, I am also new to this. You might try this Lamborghini site: www.lambolounge.com/index.htm" target="_blank">http://www.lambolounge.com/index.htmAlthough I will not be bulding a Lambo kit, I have learned a lot about the process from other people's build diaries online. I have spent days (yes days) just visiting sites. This gives you a better idea of how big this project will really become. As for printed material, there are a lot of books out there on kit car and race car engineering. I ordered several on the latter topic but a less technical (although very informative) book I like is called "The Car Builder's Handbook" by Doug McCleary. You can find it on Amazon for like $15. Good luck! Filip
