I am currently advertising a car for sale on this site and I wanted other advertisers to know that I have received numerous phony responses from people wanting me to accept strange sounding cashier's checks in payment for the car. The emails are written in poor English and sound very much like the scam that has recently flooded the internet with a promise for money if you would only send a "small" amount of money needed to release the funds from a foreign account.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

I have had no less then 6 scam artists from Nigeria attempting to purchase my car, which is advertised here as well. One fool proof way to weed them out is when they ask what your bottom line price is, give them a number significantly HIGHER then what your asking. They will take it anyways. I just had a scammer send a "cashiers" check to the Boston FBI office under the pretense it was my ficticious company's (Fibertech balistics Inc. AKA: F.B.I.)address. The fool Fed-Ex'd the check at a cost of $88.00.
Believe it or not I have the scammer sending a replacement check, since I never got the first one (imagine that!), to a Conneticut FBI office.

1 ups to you jspbtown, really, thats some clever stuff. reminds me of a scam and a counter scam i once heard? wanna know? sure you do...

it was a scam a few years ago where you would get an email from some prince or princess of some far away war torn country, supposidly his/her father was assassinated and she is fleding the country with there riches, they moved all the money into an account but want it moved over to a US account for safty, and for some reason they need your help, but needed you to send them a few hundred dollors untill they could greatly repay you.

well a guy was tired of getting these emails and took one guy up on his offer, he said he had told his 'chrurch' about the prince's
delima and the church decided to help out with the church funds, but in order for the church to help you had to be a memeber, the 'prince' replied that he would do anything, so the 'good semaritan' said all you have to do is send me $5 and a pic of a red hand panted on his right chest, so the con artist complied and sent the money and the photo. i thaught it was just funniest anti-scam iv ever heard untill just now, good work.

This is not a new scam, is internet wide, and not limited to KitCars.com. For your reference:

Mitch,
I didn't mean to imply that this was an issue on your site only. It is internet wide. I would say that most of the messages reflected information that was specific to my ad on this site however.

Geeeeez! I got another one today! They are worded so much the same that I wonder if it is the same person over and over. Very strange. I also wonder if they actually make any money from it.

Mitch....I am sure this activity is not just happening on KitCars.com...I did not mean to imply that either.
