I'm new to the kit car world and I've been wanting to start my own project for A LONG time now. I've only finally dediced I need to just get started already or it's never going to happen. I've decided I want to start pricing kits and see what I can afford to do.

I really want to build a 1989 lamborghini countach, but it seems like searcing through google for a kit for it just gives me large amounts of garbage or complete kit's already built.

I'd like to know where the best place to start getting into kit cars is. With the winter coming up and my garage now empty I'd like to put something in it ASAP to start working on. I'm open to any suggestions at all as to where I should start. Thanks!

Well you have come to the right place!. If you want to build a Lamborghini Countach i would recomend you check this site first
www.lambolounge.com

and if you are looking for a place to start goto www.ifgonline.com.
You have a choice, you either have to buy a pontiac Fiero or plan to pay some big bucks for a custom chassis. one is possble but i would recomend the custom frame because a Fiero will need alot of work done it in order to meet the standrds of being a countach. The best engine for a Countach is the chevy V8 from just about any year corvette.

If you want something in your garage ASAP then check out ebay! i have seen a few Lambos on that site and the best part is since the winter is approaching kitcars as well as real sports cars will drop down in price!. insead of paying more than 45k you will most likely pay about 30k.

why are repilcas so expensive?!

I checked out those sites you listed. Great start! I suppose my big step is getting a fiero chassis. I suppose I need a site that could explain a little of what needs to be done to switch a fiero chassis into a lamborghini one. It appears it needs to be stretched 11" from the websites I looked at?

I'm sure this question is probably a typical newbie question, but when I buy say a body kit for a countach, does it have instructions as to what I need to do to put the body onto the chassis so that it works out correctly?

I would just buy a full kit car already built, but 30k is more than I have and I doubt anyone is willing to setup a finance plan with me to purchase a 30k from them over time. Yet I can afford a few thousand every so often towards parts and pieces to build one.

Thanks for the fast responce and helpful insight!

Well you can start off getting a Fiero from ebay but most builders will tell you to get the custom chassis. I dont know but if you can write to some of the builders e-mail them and ask them and question that comes to mind.

I too just decided on the Lamborghini kit car.
I just bought a 1988 Fiero for the project.
I have done some research and will be going with a non stretched version.
Is there any place I can simply get instructions at this point so I can begin?
There is much that needs to be done before its ready for the body kit. Therefore I do not want to buy the body kit yet just to get instructions so I can begin.

Thanks for any and all help.

welcome to the forums. I want to give you a little advice.

first and I can't stress this enough. whatever you think the cost of building your car will be, double it. you might not need double but plan ahead.

think very hard about stretching a fiero. even though its been done time and time again it does not mean its the best option. forget fast speeds and good cornering on a fiero stretch.

a tube chassis is the way to go. its a much better, and safer option

the non streched countach is also not the best choice. it does not look right. the roof is usually higher and the rest is a lot shorter. kind of reminds me of a micro machine.

last I need to stress that if you are looking for cheap ways to build, then you are really not ready to take the leap. some people easily have as much money in a replica as the real deal.

there are also a lot of very good people on this forum who will help you any way they can.

good luck

Well kitcarguy just sumed it up.

The thing with a Fiero based replicar is its mainly for the looks, you can't really go that fast unless your willing to spend alot of money reengineering the chassis.

Go with the tube if you got the money, everything will litarly bolt on. No stretching, or widening the suspention.

However there really isn't a Tube chassis avalable for the Countach based kits unless you buy a Prova kit(which is no longer around) other than that I would suggest using an 88 Fiero GT or forumla, its got Lotus tuned suspenstion and brakes. Its more powerfull than the typical Fiero and you may or may not need a V-8 swap, bolt on a turbo and there you go.

Although it sounds easy but keep in mind the Countach is still a very difficult car to replicate as well as any lamborghini of any year. Only a few of them ever see the light of day where they are complete while fewer are replicated accrurately, where talking wheels, interior, color and even sound! proper badging, proper headlamps, proper wing extc... they want a spsific model they stick with it.

Ultimately they don't cross bred an SV with a 30th.

A Countach on the other hand is black and white, there's a few of them on the market still to this day and most of them are the 25th anv model and hardly anyone else offers them. So building one accrately wouldn't be as difficult as it would with a Diablo. I wouldn't recomend a non stretched model, they look very funny and cartoony, for that you might as well keep the fiero the way it is, your better off putting the time and the money in for better results.

Good luck.

ALL good advice.
I have just delved into this kitcar thing. Bought an 88 Fiero and looking for instructions as to where I need to begin without committing to a particuliar Countach kit manufacturer.
Are there any such instructions?
Remove the body, cut the roof off, where how, measurements?
etc.. etc...
Do I have to buy a kit in order to simply get some instructions?

Thanks...

No look around. Alot of manufactures offer build manuals you can buy without commiting to the kit.
