Ok I am thinking of buying a ******* or Lambo kit car, but I was wondering...if you register the car as an '86 Fiero (the donor) and then some cops sees your car, assumes it is a ******* or Lambo, runs the plate, and it comes back as an '86 Fiero...wouldn't he assume it's a stolen car? I just dont want some cop ordering me out at gunpoint thinking I stole a *******...

it could happen..you most likly will get stopped for "a good cause" ..i dont know about gun point but hey ..if you buy it ...you will get attention anyways..so just may sure ever thing is up to date..like inspection and everything and just remember most cops are people too..some like cars..they may just want to talk.."has happened"..so if you dont like attention..then i would suggest buying a vette ..hope that helps..and attention isnt that bad...just got to know how to handle it.

For insurance purposes and for other good reasons, you should re-register your car with your DMV when it is finished. Solves all such problems and insures that you will be properly covered in case of accident - you don't want to spend $10-15K on a rebody kit/wheels/tires/paint, etc., and get $2-3K from your insurance co when you total the thing.

Yep, the cops.
I've been pulled over 6 times in the last twelve months and myself and my kit car have lived here for 16 years! Don't get me wrong, they haven't ticketed me, just told me what they liked, or didn't like(ground clearance, license plate mount, tail light intensity???etc.) My car is completely legal and I run a top-of-the line radar/laser detector anywhere I drive it. If you are driving a nice shiny red swoopy looking kit car you better watch your backside.

Hi guys I'm new to the board!

I usually get the thumbs up by cops when I drive my MERA 308, but one time a cop stopped me only because I signal on a turn.. I didn't get a ticket but he walked over to the car and said to me, "Now, I know this is a ******* but please explain to me why you have it registered at a Fiero.. I explained to him what it was and opened my engine compartment and he was happy he wasn't dealing with a stolen car issue..
