Trying to find kits based on the Toyota MR-2 chassis. Has anyone ever heard of any companies that produce for this model of donor car?

I,ve seen two kits available to fit the Toyota MR-2. They are based
on the ******* 348 and F355. I believe the company is in the UK.Contact Kevin Nester at www.geocities.kevinnester.com He has photos

there are 2 company's that i know of,and they are both in the uk,www.fierofactory.com and the other is bad designs ,they don't have a web site or no advertising (legal resons)but they are more correct to the real 355 check out www.btinternet.com/~adefadero/kitcars.htm go to the b ottom and click on tony marenellos name and see the bad design car..

to be very honest, i don't think you should strip your MR2 and make it look like a *******, first of all, it would not look as good as a real 355 (MR2 based) to normal people, and to car lovers, they can tell straight away that your car is a fake kit car.the resell values are these aren't very good too.... you may as well as purchase a reproduction demo for real *******s for stunts and shows and etc, that some company have.. or get a Fiero replica. other wise, i suggest put a nice vieside body kit and crank up the turbo..

Have you seen the TRD(Toyota Racing Development) wide-body kit for the MR-2. Looks even better in person than in pictures. Original kits go for 6,7K(as I recall), but there are enough copies out there for 2K or so. http://www.bryanf.com/MR2/tonyc.htm

It's your car, and you should make it look like whatever you want it to. I've seen an M2 that was absolutely visually spot-on to the original car (I live in Newport Beach, and have seen quite a few 355s, and driven a few of them, too!), which is how I happened on this forum; I'm looking for the kit that I saw. Most 'normal people' have probably not ever seen a 355; there aren't that many of them out there.The resale values of the rebodies I've seen are always higher than a non-modified original-spec car (assuming you don't use a salvage-title vehicle). Also, buying a movie 'stunt' car is just plain stupid if you're planning on driving the car; movie companies NEVER take care of the stunt cars EVER. Your pal,

Does anyone know if the mr2 has a frame or if it is a unibody, particularly the 80's models. I had planned on using a 914 for my donor but it is a unibody. I will probably have to use a vw and convert it from rear engine to mid engine. Any info on any of this would be great.

I have decided to use the 914. I have come across one for free. I would like some input if people would like a beefier porsche 550 spyder or more of a boxster or 911 cab replica(altered enough to get away with)

Using the 914 for a Boxster replica would be a great idea. I also like the 550 replica idea, but if you're just going with a rebody, the dimensions would be a bit wrong.The 914 and the Boxster have a wheelbase of ~95 inches (95 for the 914, 95.2 for the Boxster). The wheelbase on the 550 is 85 inches. The cool thing is that since you'd be replicating a Porsche on a Porsche, you shouldn't have any problems with the badging!  Your pal,

My 550 would be a 90" wheelbase and 70" wide and should accept 18x10 inch wheels in the back. The boxster would be an easier build because it wouldn't require shortening of the chasis. The cool thing about the shorter wb is that it would only weigh about 1450lbs with a 220hp jspec engine. A corvette weighs 3200lbs and would have to have 486hp to have the same power to weight ratio. just a thought.

Yes, that is why even though the weight savings would be great I would be hesitant about the shorter wheelbase. If I could only make a vw chassis a midengine. Anyway, I will probably stick with the boxster idea. Does anyone have any ideas as to what to use for headlights? I may just use plexiglass. Does anyone know how flexible plexi is? I have never worked with the stuff.

Well, there are one of two ways of doing the headlights...The first, obviously, would be to buy the headlight units from a wrecked Boxster and fit them. That's not necessarily cost effective, but they're only around $250 each. The BMW Z3 replicators do this. If you were going to sell a kit, this would be THE way to do it. If you're doing for yourself, then go plexiglass. I've done some taillights (red plexi with a clear reflective thin underneath), and it's not really all that hard to do...You can do it in an oven! There's a pretty good write up over at this site: http://www.solanopilots.com/eaa_homebuilders_projects.htm Look up "basic heat forming." The plexi can be shaped, but it's going to require a bit of head scratchin' for that whole complex shape. So, in the interests of buying a kit from you later  I'd recommend the first way; get the real headlights! Your pal,

I'm not a big fan of the TRK stuff for the MR2 Spyder. I would like to see something like a Maclaren body for it. It looks about the same. I would especially like a hood that has a scoop like a Maclaren. I don't need to carry the spare tire in the front anyway, I've got AAA.

I think you should build the MR2 to be a ******* replica than trying to trick the car out why? The body kits are not duriable what so ever you can kick a side skurt and it will fall off. And they look terrible. ******* replica will at least be a ******* some of the body kits have the looks of an NSX, ******* 360, Lotus Esprint, and Lamborghini. you cant tell what it is!.The MR2 is much better than a Fiero in many ways so you can buy things like a twin turbo, sispention, computer tunning things like that. Compared to only a V8 swap done to a fiero. why are repilcas so expensive?!
