What i've heard is that carbon fiber is put in a stove type machine to be cooked so that it will harden. I think that a carbon body has many advantages, but if the stove is true, it would be very hard to produece carbon fiber bodys from your home. BUT LIKE I SAID, SO DONT GET IT TWISTED ANYONE......THAT IS JUST WHAT I HEARD. I've noticed people on this site tend to shread other people who are innocently wrong!

dont know if this will be of any help to you but i have a small amount of knoledge about carbon fiber.it can be layed up the same as standard GRP using standard resins and just brushes and rollers, this can cure naturally or can be baked in an oven. the cost is expensive as to but the carbon in a roll is about 15 times the price of glass mat! plus the cost can go up further if you start to use specialist resins and gel's. the most expensive form is preinpregnated carbon fiber, this is how all the formula one cars are built, this involves ordering your carbon precut to size along with sheets of gel and resin and the placed into a two part mould (male and female) the it is cured under heat and pressure. This is massivly expensive, but far stronger and lighter. hope this can help you in some way and i appologise if anything is wrong!

Man, if you are just looking for a carbon fiber look you can buy it in rolls where it looks and feels identical to carbon fiber but is a fake. You wouldn't have the real lightness of a carbon fiber body, nor the nimbleness, but i'd prefer the beauty of carbon fiber over any color of paint. By the way, that carbon fiber look alike is long lasting and will not peel, fade, or tear off. You can get it in white or the traditional black. If you would like a link to the site just let me know.

ye that is the company and i tried to use teir website but it is crap, i have a contact number for their sales and i also have a contact number for the company where i buy my resin, they are based in japan by sell worldwide. if you can be patient with me then i will try and find their numbers for you. plus i also know of a very good supplier of carbonfiber,as you were saying about using the carbon on non important stuff then i would still recommend using a wet layup carbon in a simple GRP mould, as you could still use these as a structural part of the car and with a bit of practice you can achieve a very good finish. the choice of weaves is huge from plain carbon to it being mixed with yellow kevelar (and many other colours) in many forms of weave. but it all depends on what kind of finished result you are after?

PPG is a manufacturer of products for the auto industry... They don't sell direct to end users... Just check at ANY auto body supplies stores in your local area.. Check the yellow pages, there will be lots of them listed..... In fact if you talk to a few of the stores in your local area they will have a wealth of information that you'll find helpful.....
