I've been looking at late model 4x4 compact crew cab pick-ups ... to be used both for daily commuting and the occasional tow ... after all, I'm aspiring to build a Lotus 7 type car ... which is even less practical than a motorcycle (although maybe as fast) ... anyone have any suggestions as to what might be suitable ? the main criteria being it has to be 4x4 and it needs to be able to pull a Lotus 7 behind it ... perhaps a 5 year old mid-size SUV ? or a base model 4x4 Tacoma or Ranger ? I'm trying to avoid things like a Powerstroke F250 or a Dodge Dually or a 2500/Suburban since it's overkill and expensive ... the heaviest Lotus 7 style car is 1400lbs soaking wet.

I occasionally tow a vehicle on a trailer in a 96 Explorer 6 cyl. The power is okay but it gets a little wiggly on quick stops.

If you get a vehicle this size, I'd recommend a trailer with brakes. A V8 would help too.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions on the "Tow Vehicle" - of course many people would like to have a monster crew cab Cummins or Powerstroke, I need to keep in mind that a Lotus Seven only weighs the same as 4 really big men and the expense involved in owning a strong/new full-size is not warranted (if not actually over-kill) so I need to hear what else is out there ... and to csjrishere - good luck on that "Attack" ... keep us up to date ... have heard some good things about them but I don't really know anyone with one so I'm sure there are many who are curious to hear how it works out for you.Go to Top of Page
