Good luck, I doubt that you will be able to do this yourself. But motorex has been importing skylines legally for some years and king motorsports I believe just got a licence to do so as well. But I got to warn you it will cost a absolute arm and a leg to get it here.

king motorspots doesn't have a license to compliance skylines. the only companies that currently do are motorex and rb motoring. they both charge approximately $25,000 to do so.

you can get the car to the US through any registered importer. if you plan on using it as a daily driver, or basically anything other than show car or race car, you must get it complianced with DOT standards. if you do not have pre-arrangements to do so, customs will impound it until you can prove that the car will be legalized according to DOT standards.

the long and short of compliancing is that you have to prove ownership of the vehicle and any aftermarket parts in order to recieve a VIN number, replace windshield, headlights, etc. with DOT approved units and change emissions controls to comply with the standards of the CAA.

this all might be a little confusing, so if anything needs clarifying, just say so

Funny I was told that King was registered to do this but had not started as of yet. I might be wrong, stuff like this gets taken out of context all the time.

I know that several of the 850i guys have imported CSI's into the states through traditional importers but was always under the impression that the skyline was a bigger pain then most as a USDM car was never released.

you may be right about king, however they were not on the DOT list of RI's the last time i checked.

as for the skyline being a pain to import...it definately is, it requires 20-plus changes/modifications to be legally driven in the US many of which are as expensive as they are because of the nature of the parts.

to my knowledge, the only reason that nissan did not release a US market skyline is because they did not want to diminish the stature of their JDM supercar. they have used the skyline platform on numerous US cars including the new Infinity G35. the same argument for not producing in the US market was used for many years by subaru regarding the impreza WRX and mitsubishi regarding the lancer evo, however they eventually gave in to US demand. its a shame that the final r34's were produced in 2002 so unless the model is resurrected, we will never see a US release

Well the closest that we will ever get to the skyline is a 4wd G35 coupe in v8 form. At least thats the grand plan according to infiniti.

Personally I would like to see a factory G35 tubo but that will never happen.
