Just neeed to vent. Have spent a ungodly amount of time in the garage as of late hoping to finish up the riot in a semi decent time frame. Now I am at the point of finsing all the small stuff, hiding and running all the wires, tuning, ergonomic's. The long story short is I am getting burned out, and since everything is finish work the car it does not look any further along then it did 40 man hours ago. Small probles keep turning in to larger and larger ones that I can't seem to finish. So any suggestions on how to at least keep a decent prospective on thing's. I have been making down all the larger problems that I have seen over the build but the smaller stuff keeps building up, and if I tried to keep track of it all it would simply be more writing then building. The small fab stuff is driving me up the wall. I am going to take a day or two off of banging away at the car, clear my head, drive the 356 and hope that everything works out. 03 Vintage Speedster (Done) ~97 Thunderranch Riot (Finishing) 01 S2000 daily 72 914 |

Haven't posted in a while due to the fear of backlash (nuff said), but I suggest making a checklist. When I build a kit I find it very helpful making a checklist of things remaining to do when it comes down to crunch time. You need to see progress in order to keep motivated, but when its the details that are left, the little things don't reflect the progress you are making. I staple my checklist on a piece of wood and cross things out as I go along. Each night I agree in advance to do "X" amount of things that night. That little list makes me much more effective. Don't forget to also invite some friends over to take a look. Their comments might also help you toward getting that ride on the road.

Hey stormbringer!I´m pretty green in building kitcars (still doing research on my first kit), but like jspbtown wrote, a checklist is never wrong. It will give you the satisfaction to strike a post when it´s done and you will also get a better wiew of what´s left to do, maybe it will help making plans for the next "attack" in the garage. A checklist sure motivates me when only the boring and "seeable" stuff are left. Keep going, the "paycheck" is near. And to jspbtown! It´s very easy to get verbally executed at this forum, I´m expecting a dose soon. But you can´t let it get to you, that way you´ll win.

Thanks guys, I spent some time doing the checklist and it;s much longer then i thought that it would be but I broke it down into smaller jobs. I simplified the wiring harness to just the basic's and will do the gauges and interior lights when I get around to it. I need maybe 40 more hours in the garage and the car will be done. Git a decent bonus check which means that I can go juckyard diving next weekend to try and find some decent 914 guages and make another home brew latch system for the rear + welder and tubes for the cage. I might even be able to swing a digital camera to document the build.. Car will definitly be ready for knott's though which is the biggest thing for me. This will be lit car number three for me. Next one will definitly have to be a "4re" replica. More then likely a mura restoration [sp] or newer 328 unfinished project. 03 Vintage Speedster (Done) ~97 Thunderranch Riot (Finishing) 01 S2000 daily 72 914

Yeah, I just went through the same thing on my Superstepside build-up. I made one big masterlist with the big things then broke it down into sub-lists. It always made me feel like I was getting somewhere. Hang in there this is my 9th kit project. Darrel

It run's, Three weeks into the build but it run's. Way behind schedule for me but it run's, and the key work's and the lights turn on, and the brakes light's kind of work, well one is burned out but I just need to order another bulb. Turn signal's are a serious pain in the butt to wire, at this point I am thinking of just sticking my hand out the window. So mount gas tank, build cage, run fuel lines, finish about ~50% of the wiring, gauges if I can find them, tune the engine when my new ventri's and jets come in. Bolt the seat's up after installing the carpet, detail work and it's done. ~30 hours or so I think not counting the cage. Company is going through a merger so not a lot of extra time that I can spend on the car. 03 Vintage Speedster (Done) ~97 Thunderranch Riot (Finishing) 01 S2000 daily 72 914 |
