I doubt that I ever build a replica and I admit I don't know much about the different cars and their performance, but Im just curious how good is the quaility and performance of a well built replica. I've been to some sites where it shows them building a replica chassis and using Corvette engine and brake parts, so I assume thats good quailty and performance. However, I read that most builders probably use a mild steel to build the frame where the factory uses special alloys-so is this good enough? Also what about the kit bodys and interiors-do the doors fit tight and are they weatherproof? Overall are the kits good quailty? My point is if I put that much work and money into a project I would expect it to equal or exceed the quailty and performance of a Corvette. Will it ? As far as I know that may not be that great of quailty, I just assume the Corvettes are good. I toured the factory once and it looked great to me. Just curious.

The quality of completed replicas ranges from very poor than better than the real thing. Depends on the builder and the parts he uses.
Mild steel is generally "good enough" for these chassis. I'm sure somebody will want to argue about it though. The advantage to the various alloys is they are stronger and you can use less material to achieve the same strength. I think chassis design is more important than the material used.
Hope that answers your question.
