Does anyone know of a kit that uses a BMW 850i donor car? |

I have never seen a kit car based on the 8 series BMW, konig made a wide body kit for the car, there were a few turbo kits for it as well as a supercharger for the 840. I used to own a 91 850i and I could never imagine using it as a base the wiring alone to keep the car happy would be such a huge job that no one in there right mind would undertake it. Well I have seen a ultima use the M70 engine, but they took the DK motor's off and started using the E36 throttle bodies and did a complete rebuild on the motor with the big bore kit. Agian 65k+ project so I guess you could always do it if you have the cash, and the enignes are cheap to pull, but hte ECU on the 850's was never fully cracked beyond the maisto (sp) chips. 03 Vintage Speedster (Done) ~97 Thunderranch Riot (Finishing) 01 S2000 daily 72 914 |

I've only seen 850's used as an engine donor for a Lambo Diablo, since they are basically the same engine, at least in apearance. But I definitely agree with stormbringer, ive heard people say the wiring harness issue is a pain in the butt. One person I know of had to make his from scratch for his diablo, which took him about 8 months to get right. You may want to just build a Diablo kit if you have your heart set on that V12, especially if you have the entire car intact. It wouldn't take much to make everyone think that is actually a $250,000 car, not just a kit because of that V12, especially if you get some engine work done in it, stroker, port and polish the heads, etc.Only Little Boys Wear Bowties Dream Car: 2005 Ford GT SHM 5.4L HiPo Aluminum Block, Stage III ported DOHC heads, custom internals, intake, and cams Turbodepot Twin Turbo Kit Weismann 7-speed Transaxle 2500hp Ford GT SCARRY...BUT SWEET |

Real Lamborghini's are made from carbon fibre and aluminum, so unless you knew what parts were aluminum and what parts were carbon fibre tapping on it wouldn't tell you much. The only way to fix that is for kitcar producers to copy the material use exactly and up goes the price of our kitcars. And besides, how many people do you know go up to what could be a $250,000 car and tap on it. As far as weight, if you built a faithful replica, like using a kit from NAERC and one of their replica Lambo chassis instead of the Fiero. As well as a real V12 engine and making it AWD it would actually be heavier, since fiberglass is heavier that carbon fibre. But if I built one, I wouldn't waste the extra on an AWD, I would just have to find some SV (Sport Veloce) emblems, rather that the VT (Viscous Traction) ones that usually come with the kits.Only Little Boys Wear Bowties Dream Car: 2005 Ford GT SHM 5.4L HiPo Aluminum Block, Stage III ported DOHC heads, custom internals, intake, and cams Turbodepot Twin Turbo Kit Weismann 7-speed Transaxle 2500hp Ford GT SCARRY...BUT SWEET |

Personally, I can distinguish the difference in resonance between Carbon Fibre and Fiberglass; however, for those with less acute hearing, tap on the doors which on a real Lamborghini are still made from Aluminum. Even the near deaf should be able to distinguish the difference in resonance between Fiberglass and Aluminum. Considering the value of the vehicle, either replica or real, I was careful to suggest the word "TAP", instead of "KNOCK", aware of the difference in definition. Mike

Yea browserbub, the 850i had the 5.4L SOHC V-12 and the 840 had a 4.4L DOHC V-8. The 850's V12 is a pain to transplant because of the electrical's, I don't even want to think about transplanting a new one. quote: As far as using it for a lambo, no need, there are already many really nice reproductions of the diablo. Some that people claim can stump the experts. Id like to see on of those, maybe i should attend that knotts berry farm kitcar show.
Wonder how much those cost, $$$$$$. Only Little Boys Wear Bowties Dream Car: 2005 Ford GT SHM 5.4L HiPo Aluminum Block, Stage III ported DOHC heads, custom internals, intake, and cams Turbodepot Twin Turbo Kit Weismann 7-speed Transaxle 2500hp Ford GT SCARRY...BUT SWEET |

That looks pretty sweet Teg, might want to talk to dave114 about that. Look him up in the Custom Cars post in this section of the forum. We've got a pretty long list of kit ideas for him, you might want to tack this one on to it.Only Little Boys Wear Bowties Dream Car: 2005 Ford GT SHM 5.4L HiPo Aluminum Block, Stage III ported DOHC heads, custom internals, intake, and cams Turbodepot Twin Turbo Kit Weismann 7-speed Transaxle 2500hp Ford GT SCARRY...BUT SWEET |

how did you do that? i have ideas i want to submit to some major bodykit manufacturers, but i only have drawings on skecth paper of the bumpers and stuff, but i have no way of showing them on the cars. i'd like to see the supra you made. i saw a nicewhite one earlier with an invader front end and bomex side skirts and rear bumper and stock fiberglass spoiler. NICE.....ima redline inline 4's untill i flat-line Nissan 4 life |

I did all that on Photoshop 7. I basically take stock looking cars and play with them on the program. I think I found the supra I need to go host it. Now, the supra does not look as good because I have trouble cutting pieces off other cars and making them match.

Here they are. I designed this car to play in Need for speed, but I have trouble with 3d rendering. Anyhow, I call it the vertigo. Enjoy

i like those modena upper-side-circular-modena-style scoops.... they really serve no function other than looking good. the modena uses the for the air intakes, i think. Im not a fan of large spoilers/wings? Have there been any exotics that were made (stock) with large spoiler/wings? besides the race cars, they need the downforce. Question: At what speed does downforce from a wing/spolier actually make a significant difference in handling or speed?

Well, that wing is stock on the Supra. IF I remember correctly that wing begins functioning at 66mph. Toyota out did themselves when they built the MKIV, on stock internals the supra has been able to handle over 800hp.

Yea, I think you right about 66mph, can't remember for sure either. One of my friends has a Supra making 850hp at the crank with all stock internals except pistons, but thats only becuase he wanted high compression.Only Little Boys Wear Bowties Dream Car: 2005 Ford GT SHM 5.4L HiPo Aluminum Block, Stage III ported DOHC heads, custom internals, intake, and cams Turbodepot Twin Turbo Kit Weismann 7-speed Transaxle 2500hp Ford GT SCARRY...BUT SWEET |

it all depends on the air humidity, temperature and barometric presure, and it's differnet for each car.browserbub- F40's, F50's, Lotus Exige, Nissan Skyline, Lamborghini countach, ect, ect... ima redline inline 4's untill i flat-line Nissan 4 life |

66mph, interesting. Id like to know more...what types, effectivness, etc...anyone know where to look for that kinda info?haha, i guess there have been some exotics with big ol' spoilers. I thinks its also safe to say different for each spoiler too. Supra-TT, 3000GT-VR4, 300zx-TT, skyline-gtr would be great cars to turn into donors for custom jobs or replicas. Ive seen some of these cars for less than 5K. Something to think about. has anyone seen the new 2005 prototype - "new" NSX??? That car is niiice. www.wildemotorsports.com/forums/album_pic.php?pic_id 1512" border=0>

Oh indeed I have. That new Honda HSC is gorgeous. It was rumored that Mugen(honda's F1 motor builder) was working on a High Revving 400+hp V8 for this new nsx. Which would be a much needed change from the v6. Don't get me wrong the V6 in the nsx is impressive, I would just like to see honda take a big step in their flagship sports car to make it really be a competitor with some exotics.

I think the look of the HSC is pure exotic. I dont know the specs for the HSC but i know that the older nsx weighs in at ~2600lbs. Thats as much as a 1997 honda-civic. Yet has 3 times the power. I would assume that the HSC would have a similar light weight construction and with a 400hp V8...niiice. 6.82 = lbs/HP (3410/500) 2004 Dodge Viper 6.5 = lbs/HP (?2600?/400) 2005 Honda HSC Anybody up for the project? Cheers, BB
