I would really love to get into doing a car, specifically Lambo, however I am having a hard time deciding if I want to do a fiero based or a complete frame up with a kit. Can anyone offer suggestions on where to start. I'm thinking probably the fiero to start, but am concerned about adding the weight to the fiero frame. Does anyone provide a complete (frame included) kit? I would really appreciate some advice from anyone.

Thanks in advance

shaddoe

This is the process that we use with our cars, we do use the fiero tub but as you can see you have nothing to worry about the stretch not being strong enough. I have pictures posted on our site and will be updating them tonight so you can check them out at www.exoticglass1.com . I put the dimensions on the pictures for Fletch to post on his site to help builders like yourself. If you have other questions about the stretch you can also email me.

I think that you should look at your budget. Also, would you be building the frame yourself? I would expect a good tube chassis to run at least $6000. I know Shelby makes htem for around $10000? Someone correct me if I'm wrong pls. By using the fiero you also have the advantage of reusing some low-level fiero parts (window actuators, some hinges, etc). This might cut down on your other costs.

I don't want to start a debate on which is better. There are plenty of builders who use a stretched fiero and I still haven't heard of anyone having a structural problem because of it - even on the roadster models. Speaking from an engineering POV however, I would be hesitant to reuse the fiero. It was not designed to handle a 400+HP V8 engine. The design of the fiero is basically a ladder frame chassis, which is not as rigid as a space frame. Also, if the pan has rust or physical damage, it can add stress raisers to certain points and you might not notice them. This would not be good whenever you're carving a turn or you hit your peak torque. You might also consider the weight differences between a lumpy fiero tub (with the structural mods), vs a space frame.

Bottom line: If you have the time and money, why not go with a space frame? Otherwise, with the right mods (maybe even a tunnel like the Lotus), a stock fiero seems to be ok. Shaddoe knows his stuff and like I said, I haven't heard of anyone with problems.
