Hi guysI am hoping you can give me some info on a camshaft I have been offered. It is supposed to be for a 1.6 or 2.0 ltr pinto engine here in the UK. The guy selling it says it is an American Street Cam for a pinto engine as above. I have asked for more details and he doesn't know for sure it is what he says it is. He has sent me the markings that are stamped on the cam which are H17 FP4 -71 GMC D2 C2 Do any of you know of this cam with the above markings, is it in fact made for a pinto engine at all, if so what degrees of lift, duration etc would it be. You can email direct to RH2B1@aol.com Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide. Robert |

I would not put any used cam in my motor without having it checked out even if you know it's for a Pinto. The GMC designation might be a red flag. KitCars.com Mitch |

Even if that cam is for a pinto engine, it is very doubtful that it is for the 2.0 liter pinto engine. The 2.0 engine was only available the first two or three years of the pinto in the US. Then, they went to the 2.3 ( in '72?), which was used, in one variation or another, for many years, in Pintos, Capri's, Mustangs, Turbo Coupes, & Ranger pickups, late into the '90's. More than likely, if this cam is supposed to be for a Pinto, it is for the 2.3.

And eveh then, you wouldn't want to istall it anyway without knowing and installing the recommended valve springs/lifters.The chances that this cam is correct for your block, springs, and lifters are not likely. It will almost certainly decrease current performance. I'd stay away from it. KitCars.com Mitch |
