I'm new to the kit car/replica scene. Is it just me or does there seem to be a HEAP of scamers in the biz? Can someone give me some guidelines for dealing with these guys? Why is there so much of this stuff going on? This certainly isn't the case with the AC Cobra and GT40 replica industry in Australia, so I'm a little confused. |

Because the whole business in the USA and Canada is illegal. You can not place anything on a puplic road unless it meets all of the laws of the land.New Kid On The Block |

That is untrue. Please refer to this thread: www.kitcars.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1472" target="_blank">http://www.kitcars.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1472 Your pal, Meat.

That's a bit silly. In Australia you can drive whatever you want, but a Mechanical Engineer certified by the Australian Automotive Engineer's Ascociation has to certify that the vehicle complies with all current Australian Design Rules (or ADR, which are quite strict, some of which are pointless) for an Individually Constructed Vehicle, or ICV.Things like chassis tortional rigidity, braking capacity and emissions are key areas. I guess that's why our Cobra and GT40 replicas are of such high standard.

In the U.S. we can pretty much drive whatever we want to as well, but our home-built cars don't usually have to be inspected by an engineer. I'm familiar with the ADRs (and yes, some of them are silly), but I'm pretty sure the M40 will meet the requirements. Your pal, Meat.
