I`m planning to make a seat-mould from plywoodboard and urethanefoam. The basic-laminating methods are clear to me but I need to know some more details in using these materials for automotive applications.
For example how many layers of fiberglass cloth and/or mat I need to use for the bucketseats? And what are the correct weights of the materials (thickness)?
I have the same questions concerning the forecoming Porsche Speedster-body fabrication also (made on a VW Beetle baseplate).
Please share your knowledge with me so I can start working instead of just planning and talking.

Before carrying out any work on the plug (the plywood former) you should test the foam to check that it doesnt melt or distort when the resin or body filler is applied. If successful, the finish plug needs to be polished using wet and dry paper (upto about 1200) the use polishing compound. 4 to 5 layers of mould release wax are needed with a good time between each aplication to ensure that it hardens.

As for the laminating, the mould needs an initial gel coat, this is followed by a layer os tissue and a layer of 1oz, after drying 3 layers of 1 1/2oz are applied and another 2 after theses have dried. A few days are needed for the mould to cure then it can be struck. polishing compound and another 4-5 layers of wax are needed on the mould.

The thickness of the mouldings depends upon the use, if it is for the road 1 layer of 1oz and 2 layers of 1 1/2oz will be sufficient.
