Hello again, I was thinking the other topic was taking too long to load so I figured we could continue it in a new topic. Meat, if you decide to make it remember who helped you think of it and maybe you can cut me a deal When I mentioned Grand Touring in the last post it got me to thinking and a vanquish would look very nice on the caprice. I did a style study and measured out the wheelbases to scale in Rhino. I really think the stretched out version looks better surprisingly. I think it makes the real deal look stubby. What do you guys think? Someone skilled enough to make this body would probably have a line of happy customers. Well, wanna go spend some time with the wife. Talk to you guys later, Scott

swoodard23, In my opinion, your stretch version outstanding and makes the original Vanquish look like a Hot Wheels car. If built, this could be the first replica with more appeal than the original car. Did you compute the approx. overall length for your stretch version? Will I need a CDL (commercial drivers license) to drive this beauty? Mike

Aston Martin Vanquish wheelbase= 105.9 1990's chevrolet caprice= 115.9 I added 10" to the wheelbase to make the body fit a chevy caprice. If you could drive a caprice, you could drive a replica vanquish. I think replica lighting could be had fairly cheaply. Large recessed fog lamps in front down low. Regular round headlight, a driving light, and small circular turn signal lamp coverd by molded plexiglass for the headlight bucket. Rear tail lamps look like a toyota solara lights could be used. Front and rear glass look pretty flat and probably wouldn't be that hard to find a donor. Slap on some aftermarket 20-22" wheels and you have a nice looking car. Later, Scott

Scott, If you have no plans for any action on your idea, I suggest you send your stretch photo to Aston Martin for consideration. Looks so good that Aston Martin might entertain a future design change, should the company's engineers find the economics and engineering to be feasible. Unlikely, but possible, Aston Martin may even reward you for your assistance. Mike

Thanks Mantacars, I have already submitted an idea for the next generation camaro to GM for their consideration. I have a few more ideas up my sleeve. Some of them that I have enough confidence in my skills to build myself. We'll see what happens. I've always liked the vanquish and remember some posts here about people interested in building it from computer drawings. I wish I had either the skill or enough money to continually buy foam to get all the compound curves right. I really do think this car on a caprice chassis is a viable option. I would like to see it built even though it would be huge. When you look that good, who cares if it corners :) Later, ScottP.S. Manta cars, do you own a manta montage? Those are cool cars.

Scott, Responding to your question - Yes, I do own a Manta Montage that I originally built in 1980 and have rebuilt several more times over the passing years. Photo appears in a prior forums topic: http://www.kitcars.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1071 If interested in Manta cars (Montage and/or Mirage) checkout following website: http://www.mantacars.com Mike

Hello chaps.I've wanted to build a Vanquish replica from the second I saw it appear in the trailer for Die Another Day :) My Dad used to build kit cars from scratch. In fact, he once got a nasty letter from a hire company when they found fibreglass in the vents of a Diablo he'd borrowed :) I've got his experience on my side, and he reckons we can pull it off. But I could really use your opinions of suitable donor cars. Bear in mind I'm based in England and have a limited budget. I haven't been able to find a Caprice, as mentioned in this thread. My Dad's first thought was a Ford Capri, until I pointed out difference in windscreen sizes on the two vehicles. Probably no good. Thanks for any info you can offer. I appriciate it. I'll also be visiting a nearby Aston Martin showroom and taking photos and measurements until I get kicked out :)

Hi guys. The original is a pretty ***y piece of hardware. It must be an american thing to make things 'bigger' ('is better') :) Your stretched version reminds me a lot of a viper for some reason...
