Ok, so I have always wanted a convertible 996 911, but the c4 isn't much faster than my non-sti wrx, so I can't justify dropping so much $$$ on something with marginal performance.

All the 996 kits have the wrong roofline and doors, so what if you bought a salvaged boxster (correct roofline) and put a wicked imports 996 kit on it? For the convertible gt2 or whatever convertible 996 porsche you choose? Would this work? The interrior and doors and roofline (windsheild at least) would be accurate . . . just a thought. I realize this 996 reproduction would probably be a little on the expensive side, but it would still be significantly less than buying a real 996.

thanks in advance

where have you seen a 996 kit...is there a site?
I have driven a 1998 996C2...it was a friends I wish I could even consider owning one. They go for about £27000.00 here in England. How much would you have to pay for own there?

They drive nicely but the boxster has better road holding especially during acceleration. why should you go for one IT IS A PORSCHE.

1999 996c2 with 50k miles = 43,000 roughly
1997-1999 boxster with 50k miles = 20,000 roughly

salvaged boxster with minor damage = 10,000 roughly
then replace damaged body panels with parts from http://www.betterbodiesmotorsport.com/homefr.html and you are set, i think that is the right site, i have a few sites that offer lightweight racing parts for 996, basically they are fiberglass and not too expensive so you piece it together

I’m familiar with better bodies…but they don’t offer a 996 kit as far as I could see.

Are you intending to rebuild a Boxster into a 996? Remember that the Boxster engine is locate more like a mid engines then a rear, like the one used in the 996.

If I was you, I would start with a used 911, there are ‘000s of them available in USA for next to nothing and then I would make the moulds for a 996. Rent a 996 for a few days and make moulds … you will properly lose your security deposited!!! Afterward you will find that a kitcar manufacturer will buy the moulds of you and you would have your money back.
Oh course this is a more long-term project then just bolting on some new wings and such…but as you pointed out the roof lines and doors on the 996 is complete different from that of the old cars so it is really the only way. It does mean there will be no budget build here. You would have to use real windows and hardware…well until some one starts to develop the mould a little or have special glass made up.
It will always cost you when you are the first.

Good luck

You cracy fools a used 996 will cost a lot less then a silly kitcar. So save your money and buy a real-one or at least you can buy a wrecked one and if you are handy you can rebuild it and still end-up with a real 996. Latter

You can put together a 996 from the less-expensive 1974+ 911s fairly inexpensively. The one thing you're going to have to be aware of is that the 996 is almost 7" longer than the 911, and the wheelbase is 92.6 inches.

The Boxster may be a closer match, but it's also more expensive; a trade off you may have to work out for yourself.

If you can lay your hands on a 996 and pop a body off of it, you'll be further ahead in the game.

Your pal,
Meat.

I'm talking about Porsches; cars that you know nothing about.

Seems like all you want to do here is attack me - someone who is obviously smarter, wittier, wiser, and far more knowledgeable than some silly little Canadian girl.

Well, good luck with that...

I've been around alot longer than you have, I know alot more than you will ever know, and I've already exposed you. Your silly little game does nothing but make you look even more stupid. Tuck your little tail between your legs and run along home now. The rest of us have grown-up things to talk about.

Wrong...

I think know You are an idiot.

Thaink about it, there are people on this board who have forgotten more than you will ever know about cars.

Aren't you getting bored yet?

The information I posted was to prove that:
A. Meat was posting true and good information

and

B. You are an idiot that is wasting bandwidth on the world wide web.

If this was my site, you would have been gone a long time ago. People like you think you are funny and people enjoy your trash talking.
The truth is, people come here to get valid information about a subject. That is something you have never offered to anyone.
You are a total waste of air and should not be allowed to breed.

From another thread:

Please moderate. I'm quickly losing any desire to continue reading this forum because of this. In case you had to ask the person in question was originally Edge-Net. After that handle was banned (I'm assuming) he made up new handles meatball and meats mom. Check the IPs, I'm sure you'll find they are all the same.

Don't ban handles, ban the IP in this case. It's the only way to stop the spamming and save this forum. This forum used to be a productive place to post and read, it is no longer that due to a juvenile and the lack of moderating here.

I haven't talked to Mitch in awhile. His phone number has been disconnected, and there is no new number.

You can try emailing him, but that hasn't worked out very well either. What I WILL recommend as a temporary stop-gap until Mitch gets this resolved is to feel free to use my forum to post. Once Mitch gets things tightened back up, I can export all of the threads back to him and he can import them into this software package.

My site is an EDGE-NUTZ FREE ZONE.

The general site is:
www.cobratrader.com/bbs/" target="_blank">http://www.cobratrader.com/bbs/

The kit-cars specific parts are: www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=10" target="_blank">http://www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=10
www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=11" target="_blank">http://www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=11

For the duration, I am setting up a specific board just for the people from here. Anything you post on the following board will be exported back to Mitch so that he can add the posts and topics in here. The board is:

www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=18" target="_blank">http://www.cobratrader.com/yabbse/index.php?board=18

I am ONLY setting up the above board to assist Mitch, and it will be taken back on down as soon as we get rid of the garbage here. I like this site, and I don't want to see it lose membership because of some silly 12-year-old Canadian girl with an ax to grind.

Feel free to post, and you can rest assured that I'll make sure we keep things flowing smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me: admin@Cobratrader.com

Your pal,
Meat.

meat: You dirty filthy slime, trying to steal a poor guys web hits while he is down. Move-on you scum I would never come anywhere near a site that has your name on it. I may come on your face you filthy scum. How is the 12 year old girl fascination still dreaming of 12 year old girls you scum. If I can confirm that you are messing with 12-year-old girls I will personally hunt you down like a rat.

I was thinking about buying a salvaged boxster with mild front end damage. I know there is a site that sells plastic and carbon fiber 996 parts, it is in the other 911 thread. Basically the kit would be for a convertible carrera since the roof line would be difficult to recreate, and the problem with the wickedmotorsports kits is the windsheild is too steap and clearly doesn't look realistic. Then again, i can get a used boxster with high miles for less than 20,000 and maybe I should just be happy with a boxster

As for the edge-net situation, just treat him like you treat all misbehaving people, just ignore him, eventually he will go away and if not then don't sweat it, just scroll past his message when you see his name on the left, that is what I do at least
