Has anyone dealt with Indy Steet LLC at www.indystreetcar.com? I'm very interested in their turn-key single seat model. Unfortunatley I haven't been able to find information about them, except from their very limited web page. Kitcars.com has a link to them on their home page plus a banner ad, but no other info is available. Also, I'm wondering if this car would be street legal in Wisconsin? Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

I am with you there.. I have been looking at what it would take to build a one of a kind. I looked at the ad's for the indy street car and I am hooked. Simple design, great looks and can you immagine that passing you on the highway. I however will built it myself... the whole street legal thing is puzzling. I looked at the dept of motor vehicles (Missouri) and their "Safety criteria" is no where to be found. I too am curious as to the "legalities". but man I believe of the kits out there today this would be the most fun. Turning heads is'n even an issue here, this would be an accident causer.Oh yeah! |

another thing you may want to look into is the "indycycle" (Now called the sportcycle for legal reasons.)It is a 3 wheeler that uses a motorcycle donor. Granted, it looks a bit wierd, but since it is classified as a motorcycle, there are very little safety rules to follow. As a result, it is very low to the ground, and looks alot more like an indycar. Give it a look. http://www.indycycleonline.com/

I don't know anything about the company, but I was able to check out their cars at the carlisle show. I thought they were very nice, I would love to be able to get one. As far as legalities, if it isn't street legal as is, you may have to put some fenders over the wheels. Probably some wide motorcycle fenders would do. You probably also will be required to have some sort of eye protection, glasses or goggles. Other than that I don't see anything that would prevent it from being streetable.Rick Lord http://www.kingdomcustoms.com |

Thanks for the replies everyone! So far my efforts to contact IndyStreet have proven fruitless. I've sent an email and received no reply and have called them several times (at different times of the day) and no answer. They don't even have an answering machine for me to leave a message. I'm losing faith in doing business with them. I'd be happy to find one person upon this earth who has purchased and licensed the IndySteet car.I've also searched all around the Wisconsin DMV site and couldn't find anything about what make's a vehicle street legal in cheese land. I believe there are issues with turn signals and bumpers in Wisconsin, but I'm not sure. Once again, any input would be greatly appreciated from this (hopefully) future kitcar owner.

Hello all . I called up there 1-800 number and Got to talk to the crew that builds them . They are a Father and son organization that has been building race cars for years . I talked to him for a good long time and found out alot about the cars and where they are going with them . There latest project is putting a small block 350 in the cars coupled with a Porsche transaxle . They told me about there process of building and the parts they use . These are parts you can find at the auto parts store . They use GM spindles and box tubing through out. I asked them where they got the geometry for there cars and he told me how they got the plans from a race car builder in there area (that didnt want to get into production?). They are legit as far as I can tell and God be willing I am planning on getting one of there cars . I will take a flight to Florida or Grey hound bus and drive back to Califonia . There two seater version goes for around the same price and only noves the seat forward two inches and they also reinforce the firewall. I also asked about what to do if you get caught in the rain and they told me they have two plans already . One is a soft top and the other is a fighter jet type canopy . The latter being only if enough interest is shown , the expense of lexan and tooling and shaping and having it optically correct is expensive. I hope this answers some questions . They will seriously work with you ,and send you info if you request . sincerely Jeremy James Ps: ask for Ryan and mention my name and they will get your brochure out asap ,I got a little deal going. Have fun!!!!!!

Thanks burlguy. Good to hear someone has actually talked to them. I'm not sure why the phone rang off the hook whenever I tried calling them. I'll try to contact them again by phone and email and will definitely mention you. Hopefully they will know if their car is legal in Wisconsin, as I've yet to find that out. It would be awesome to be cruising the streets in that car. Thanks for the info!

i just was looking for some high performance versions of these and came accross this thread. i hop its still being looked at. i have contacted and bought plans for an indycycle from jamieson over at www.indycycle.net, his plans are very similar to those of jims. i have taken the plans to my chassis builder who is designing me a 1 peice chassis that will accept a 345/40/17 rear tire. we are designing it to use a standard spaco seat so it can be driven for long distances. this is the very start of the project, and i dont see it being done until spring or summer time. for a motor i will be using either a TL1000R or the R1. plans include a turbo once the car is running and proven reliable. i will be able to offer help getting parts and set ups. as for the legality of it, its legal. ive checked wis and mn law and its good to go. its classified as a motorcycle, but you could also list it as a kit car. both will be ok. email me if you want to talk. joshjoshphanson@yahoo.com exclusive audio.

To all those interested in Indy Street / cars I've just been dubbed sales person. I have been FORCED to drive around northwest Florida displaying the prototype model, the yellow single seater in the ads. Any questions that you might have as to availibility or price I'll assist any way I can. Needless to say, I haven't had my picture taken this much since I was a baby. I've put about 1800 miles on this unit in two weekends without the first problem. This is made even more impressive by the fact that this car is two years old. E-mail more for awesome details on my Indy Street Car adventures. WARNING stay out of HOOTER"S parking lot, the orange is hard to get off the car. sgilbert@polygard.comSteve F. Gilbert |

I love that car Kurt. That's a cool idea using the R1 Fairing.I know this thread is old but I noticed something that I think is wrong. It was stated above that you can register the Indy Street Car as a motorcycle and that's not true because it has 4 wheels. The indy cycle can be registered as a motorcycle because it has 3 wheels. Seems like there alot of people eyeballing this kit. I myself being one of them. Personally, I will have to go after the 1 Seater version. Has anybody got a price on the Kit? I see where they offer it in stages, looks like the Stage 2 would be an excellent start. I am in the process of finishing a Corvette C4 conversion to a Car not allowed to be mentioned on this site. Once I finish I think I am going to tackle one of these Indy Kits, AHHHHHHHHHHH i can feel the wind in my hair already! Daniel
