I recently picked up a Kelmark GT with a Chevy 307 V8 engine. The PO told me it has ported 327 heads with marine cams. It has a Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4 barrel carb. Does this sound like a reasonable setup? I had somebody tell me that the 307 is not a good engine. I'm still working on the brakes, so I haven't run it on the street yet. Thanks, John

I wouldn't call it a bad engine, so much as one of the more rare small block chevys. My book shows that it was used in cars and trucks from '68 to '73. It's similar to the 327, sharing the same stroke, but with a smaller bore. Rod and main journals are the same size as the 68'+ 327 and 350. If the block is the same as the 327/350, bore it out .125 over and build a high spinning 327 for your Kelmark. Without specs on the cam, who knows how it will perform. Doesn't a marine cam spin backwards???
