Ok, I was playing around on EBay.......the end result was a new toy.
However I am unable to locate any amount of information on what I just purchased. Anyone have any information or links you can share with me on this would be appreciated. Feel free to voice your views on this deal.
Here is a link to the auction posting, but be kind, I am old enough to have known better.

I will take any feedback anyone is willing to give, I know this is not a great fast looking Lambo or a Cobra kit, but give me your thoughts. Being a Honda it sould run for ever you would think.
It must be somewhat rare since finding information apprear to be darn difficult.

Wow! Talk about a blast from the past!

I believe that the Spex Elf was a Canadian product, based on the first-generation (late 70s?) Honda Civic. Essentially, the body and top were stripped off the car, then a new fiberglass body was added to the mix.

And early rebody! I think it's a great little car, and you made a great purchase. Enjoy your car, it's (mechanically and electrically) a Honda and should be just as reliable as one!

Your pal,
Meat.

Meat,
Thanks for your reply. These seem to be much more rare than I thought. To date I have only located two sites with any information. I appeciate you assistance. I am looking forward to picking it up and checking it out.
Figured for the price I gave I couldn't get hurt too badly. Guess push comes to shove, I could always add a bottle of NOS and resale it as a Pocket Rocket Ricer (Honda) mini convertible to some kid who wants to play the "Fast and Furious".

Well, while checking this forum out, what do I run across? Spex Elf? Here's some trivia for you...
Yes, I went to school with 1 of the designers. Paul Deutchman, I can't recall the other guy right now1. Paul still lives in Montreal, and I see him once every 2 years or so... I can remember Paul in school, drawing F1 designs that, after graduation, took him to England to further his design career. He returned to Mtl, and produced the SPEX! I believe he took it to a show in California, with a purpose to prove you could build one in less than 2 Days.... he finished just under that time! Some magazine wrote him up on this! I believe Honda Corp. was showing some interest in the design! He then moved on to Callaway Corvette and to design products for them. He is currently(or the last time I spoke with him) working for Bombardier Aerospace. Thought I might babble a bit! Enjoy your toy!

Sandy,
Great, I appreciate the information. Sometimes you just have to marvel at what the internet can afford you in terms of gobal access.
I also, on another site located a person who has a copy of the original build manual and is sending me photo copies. Should you run across your friend, let him know there are still a couple of his dreams still alive.
Jon

Hi jonrjen,

I seriously considered buying one of these back in 1984. Seriously enough to purchase the assembly instructions on how to build one. Let me know if you are interested.

I hope the person who purchased the Elf is still on here. I have just recently purchased a Spex Elf. I will be starting an Elf registry soon and would like to hear from you or anyone else here who owns or owned an Elf. I have been in contact with Mr. Paul Deutschman and he is a most genuinely friendly helpful person. He estimates there are only about a dozen of these interesting little cars left. He still owns one and it is yellow like the one I purchased. Thank You.Go to Top of Page
