My husband came home with a kit car yesterday. The title says "1980 EMPR". The previous owner wrote "Empress" on some of the documents. The motor is a VW. Any idea where I can find more infomation.

I don't know how to insert a photo here.

Never heard of a EMPR before. Could it possibly say EMPI?

Send me a picture at jspbtown(AT)AOL.com and I might be able to help.

There was an "Empress" years ago, I think it was either built by LaDawri or Victress. Small, open coupe if I remember right. But I don't recall them being VW powered. I'm sure Jeff (jsptown) will post the photos, or you can send them to me as well at lettermanrick(at)yahoo.com

Becky sent me a picture. It was a 52 MGTD replica. It looked alot like an old FiberFab MIGI.

I gave her some sites to help solidify the identification.

Everything points to the MG TD, thanks for the info!

My husband found a metal tag inside the car that says
"Em-180 (#5006)
Empress I
American Custom Cars"

Any info would be very much appreciated. I am finding nothing on the internet.

Look what I found, Rick. La Dawri did build a car on a VW chassis but the year and name are wrong for mine.

After the company closed, Les used the Formula Libre molds to build one prototype called the Vendetta. He built the car on a VW chassis for production in Canada.

How 'bout that! I thought it was the "Dutchess" and the previous owner got the name mixed up. I can't find anything in all the catalogs I have for American Custom Cars either. I'd imagine most any MG part might fit if it needed repair as many of those type vehicles were very similar. Enjoy!
